A vital part of the 75 Hour Certificate Program is assessed on the ability to deliver safe and effective Oncology Yoga intervention. To achieve this, the yoga4cancer Team must evaluate how each trainees is able to implement the yoga4cancer Method and ensure safety of their students (e.g. cancer survivors). The assignment to achieve this is the Teaching Practicum.
The details of the practicum are provided in the 75 Hour Program Orientation and throughout the program itself. The entire program is designed to help each individual achieve this standard. Our mission is to ensure your certification and success. Some details are listed here:
- The entire 75 hour program will deliberately lead you through topics and assignments to help you develop and evolve your knowledge and skills. And to achieve the Teaching Practicum assignment. Until you receive the assignment, there is no practicum preparation necessary besides completing the program.
- The assignment will provided late in the program in ‘Module #5 – Teaching Practicum Assignment’. Once you have completed all earlier topics, you will be able to access.
- The program then take you through various topics to develop, practice, and revise your practicum several times before recording and submitting the assignment.
- After these practice assignments, in Module #6, a video recording of your Teaching Practice will be required to achieve the assignment.
- The video or the practicum will be a maximum of 20 minutes in length.
- In your practicum, you will teach to one mock student – a friend, family member or colleague. This person does not need to be a cancer survivor or patient. Keep it simple. This assignment is focused on evaluating you and your skills as an Oncology Yoga professional – it is not providing support to a cancer survivor. That will be done in the future.
- Your practicum video can be taught and recorded:
- EITHER in-person via home, studio or other.
- OR via video through using a multi-screen virtual format (e.g. Zoom).
- Your practicum must be delivered in English.
- Both your video participants and you must be fully visible and heard. Our goal is to assess your ability to provide a safe and effective class.
- The video practicum must be recorded via a smartphone, tablet, computer or camera. Your ability to achieve this technical requirement was an agreed condition of the registration.
- After recording your video practicum, you will be provided specific instructions in Module #6. Email submissions will not be accepted.
- Once your Practicum is submitted, a training mentor will review and take careful notes. They will also review your worksheets and other assignments.
- Individual Practicum Discussion – Once your mentor has had time to review, they will set up a video call with you to review your practicum. This call will be up to 1 hour in length. We encourage you to take notes during your mentor session.
- Practicum Feedback – After the call, your mentor will submit a form via the online system with a summary of their feedback to you. This feedback will include authorization to proceed with certification or will require a re-submission.
- If necessary, your mentor may ask you to resubmit your assignment in a second video based on specific feedback. The goal here is to ensure you are the best Oncology Yoga teacher possible. If required, a resubmission is a great learning opportunity.
- A successful submission of the practicum is required for certification.
- Please refer to this topic throughout the program to reassure and provide guidance. Additional instructions and support are provided in Modules #3, #5 and #6.
Save Your Practicum Deadline!
For some programs, the practicum deadline is strict. Completion of all program content and assignments leading up to the practicum is required prior to submitting your Teaching Practicum by the deadline in Module #6. Failure to achieve this deadline will require a transfer to a another program and could incur additional tuition.
