FAQ: How Long Do I Have Access to a yoga4cancer Course or Program?

It’s one of the most common questions we receive — and a fair one. Here’s a clear answer, and the thinking behind it.

How long do I have access to the certificate program after I enroll?

Most yoga4cancer courses or programs provide one year of platform access from your enrollment date. Some exception exist. Please review materials upon registration.

Why one year? Is this just a technical limitation?

Honestly, it’s more about learning than logistics — though both matter.

A time-bound enrollment window is an intentional pedagogical choice, and one shared by most serious professional certification programs. Here’s why it works:

  • It supports genuine comprehension. The y4c curriculum is dense, sequential, and cumulative. Concepts build on one another — you can’t effectively apply what you learn about lymphatic function without first having internalized how cancer treatments affect the body. Open-ended access can actually work against learning: without a horizon, it’s easy to defer, skim, or move through material without full engagement. A year is enough time to go deep, not just accumulate hours.
  • It mirrors professional standards. Programs accredited by bodies like Yoga Alliance, IAYT, and continuing education providers in healthcare routinely set completion windows — typically six months to one year.
  • It keeps the curriculum current. Oncology research moves quickly. Treatment protocols, safety guidelines, and evidence on yoga’s role in survivorship are regularly updated. A one-year window allows us to ensure that what you’re being certified in reflects current standards — not materials that may have shifted since you enrolled two or three years ago.
  • It supports your momentum. Students who complete programs within a structured window consistently report greater confidence going into their practicums and early teaching. Moving through material with intention — rather than indefinitely — builds the readiness that the practicum demands.

What happens if I need more time?

Our goal is to help individuals achieve certification and go out to safely and effectively support cancer survivors. We recognize that personal and professional challenges — including health circumstances — can impact well-intended training plans, and we offer an Extension option for participants who need more time than the standard 1-year access window.

Extensions require increased administration, technology costs and technical support. A fee is required to cover these expenses that is not included in the original tuition.

To request an extension, a participant must submit the following in writing to the yoga4cancer Team:

  1. Reasons for requesting the extension. This may include health, personal, or professional circumstances. There is no judgment here — we simply want to understand your situation so we can support you appropriately.
  2. A reflection on the past year, including your pace through the material and your comprehension to date (reviewing your quiz performance in My Account is a good starting point). This isn’t about assigning blame — it’s about identifying, what’s worked and what hasn’t, so the extension actually sets you up to finish. Please note we will be doing this review whilst evaluating your extension request.
  3. A completion plan, including your requested extension length and any adjustments you intend to make (e.g., study pace, quiz retake strategy, additional review of specific modules) to complete successfully within the new timeline.
  4. Confirmation of the required Administration Fee. A $250 fee is required to extend. Payment of this fee will be required to access the program after the original date has expired.

Additional terms:

  • Historically, Transfer were allowed when various programs were offered. These are no longer offered or applicable. If you believe this option is suitable, please reach out. Review details on the Extension Policy and Requirements in the Terms and Conditions.
  • Approval of the extension and details of the extension are at the sole discretion of the yoga4cancer Team. Some restrictions or exceptions apply.
  • An extension is only allowed once.
  • Depending on time elapsed and program updates, an extension may require an individual to revisit or redo parts of the Online Program. In these cases, the yoga4cancer Team will reset a students profile to force resubmission and revisiting of work.

What about after I complete the Certificate Program?

Certificate Program graduates retain access to our video library beyond program completion. This means you stay connected to y4c’s growing body of resources, can revisit content as your practice develops, and are positioned for ongoing training opportunities as they become available.

What if I’m not sure which program is right for me before I enroll?

We encourage you to reach out before you register. We’re happy to help you identify the right program for your background, goals, and schedule — so that when you enroll, you’re set up to complete successfully within your access window.
