Oncology Yoga Beginner’s Series
Join Teri Gandy-Richardson, a yoga4cancer Certified Teacher, for a short sequence to reduce the risk of Lymphedema and manage any symptoms as part of our Beginners Series for Cancer Patients and Survivors.
Lymphedema is a serious, painful side effect of cancer treatments. It is retention of lymph fluid most commonly in extremities – arms and legs. This side effect from cancer treatments causes discomfort, movement limitation and can be disfiguring. And worse, once Lymphedema occurs, there is no cure resulting in ongoing, life-long management. Specific type of movement and massage have been proven effective to manage Lymphedema from occurring, as well as relief when symptoms do occur. This sequence is designed to improve lymphatic flow and support overall movement guidelines.
Healthcare leaders like the American Cancer Society recommend that all cancer patients and survivors get at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise – like active yoga practice – each and every week.
This class and the others provided in the Oncology Yoga Beginners Series are taught by certified yoga4cancer professionals. Our goal with Yoga Alliance is to provide the motivation and means to achieve the movement recommendations for cancer recovery and survivorship and to manage the many side effects that cancer survivors might face.
