Recommended by Oncologists

Leading medical organizations—including the American Cancer Society and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services—recommend 150 to 320 minutes of yoga or physical activity per week for cancer recovery and prevention. Oncologists now regularly refer patients to yoga as part of their care plan.

But not all yoga is safe for cancer survivors.

The yoga4cancer Certificate Program equips professionals with the clinical insight, research, and practical tools needed to safely support survivors—bridging the gap between yoga and oncology care.

How Oncology Yoga Is Different

The yoga4cancer methodology is an evidence-informed Oncology Yoga approach designed to support people across all cancer types, stages, and recovery phases. Rooted in an adapted Vinyasa style, it combines breath-linked movement, restorative poses, and meditation techniques. The method is highly adaptable, making it accessible for diverse students and applicable across yoga styles and settings.

Cancer and its treatments can radically alter a person’s body and nervous system. Without proper training, even well-meaning yoga teachers can unintentionally cause harm—physically or emotionally. Oncology Yoga is designed to be safe, supportive, and effective, using research-backed methods to reduce side effects and improve quality of life.

The 75 hour training explores:

  • The physics and physiology of yoga
  • Facts and research about cancer and cancer treatments
  • Short and long term side-effects and how yoga can mitigate or reduce them
  • Appropriate and inappropriate asanas, pranayamas and meditations
  • Trauma informed methods on how to talk about cancer and be authentically supportive to individuals
  • Guidance on how to create an effective and safe class or individual practice
  • +10 hours of guided practice
  • Supervised practice teaching with 1 on 1 mentor support to ensure certification
